Nesta quarta-feira (24), aconteceu a edição de 2021 da premiação australiana ARIA Awards, com grande destaque para Genesis Owusu e The Kid LAROI.
A nova sensação da música, The Kid LAROI levou duas categorias, sendo elas a de Melhor Artista e Melhor Lançamento Pop com o hit “Stay”, em parceria com Justin Bieber. De acordo com a ABC, em seu discurso, o cantor que ainda fez uma performance bem animada de “Stay”, afirmou: “Tudo o que eu sempre quis foi trazer a cultura à tona e mostrar ao mundo como a música australiana é boa.”
Genesis Owusu foi o grande campeão da noite, ganhando quatro prêmios com o seu disco “Smiling with No Teeth”: Álbum do Ano, Melhor Lançamento Independente, Melhor Lançamento de Hip Hop e Melhor Capa. O australiano apresentou um medley dos singles “Waiting On Ya”, “The Other Black Dog” e “Don’t Need You”, e fez um agradecimento empoderador:
“Eu costumava ficar desconfiado quando era mais jovem por causa da maneira como me vestia e as coisas que fazia. Mas todas as pessoas que amei e respeitei sempre permaneceram firmes, imóveis, inabaláveis porque conhecíamos o poder de quem éramos e do que criamos. Para todas essas pessoas, Goon Club em todo o mundo, excêntrico, negros: saibam que não cabe a nós mudar as pessoas, mas cabe às pessoas acompanharem e verem o que estão perdendo.”
Também receberam prêmios Taylor Swift, Crowded House, Vance Joy, Zoë Barry e mais, e ainda fizeram ótimas apresentações RÜFÜS DU SOL, Gretta Ray, Budjerah, entre outros.
